Bernie Ashman has been a professional astrologer for almost thirty years, having discovered his passion for astrology while reading Dane Rudyhar's Astrology of Personality. Since that time, his astrology practice has expanded to include writing, lecturing, and counseling clients from all over the world. He is now a recognized authority in the astrology field, and his writings have earned accolades from his readers and peers alike.

"I see astrology as a wonderful blueprint in assisting individuals to more clearly define their life choices," says Ashman, and his person-centered approach to astrology has made him a favorite with his readers. Ashman is known for his ability to make even the most complex topics accessible to the novice astrologer.

It came at the perfect time as all books do for me

When I read my birthday week I couldn't believe how accurate it was to what I have gone through. Although, if I would have read this book 10 years ago I don't think it would have made sense to me cause I didn't go through the things this book stated I would struggle with yet. It came at the perfect time as all books do for me. I've shared this book with many friends and they feel the same way about theirs. I've even read other birthday weeks to see if it fit my life but nope the descriptions of other birthday didn't resonate with me. I think this helps to make you aware of what you came here to learn. I even recommend it to my friends with children so that they can help guide them in life. Not necessarily control the situation but know what their weaknesses will be and how to nurture and strengthen them for a better life. A guidebook for the path of least resistance. Highly recommended!

Very insightful

I found this book on a library shelf "by accident." Since reincarnation is the subject of many of my own books, I checked it out.

I've just come online to purchase a copy for my private library. Unlike another reviewer, I found that I wanted to own a copy precisely because it covers other signs in addition to my own. I will write a full review later, after I've had more time to spend with it. But the fact that I'm eager to purchase it before the book goes back to the library should tell you how much my husband and I liked the insight it provides, even after years of the personal past-life research we've conducted.

He finds the periodic ritual relocation of Ise's precincts a counter to the West's concept of architectural permanence, and the repetition of the ritual an alternative to modernity's anxious quest for origins. He traces the "constructive power" of the Todai-ji Temple to the vision of the director of its reconstruction, the monk Chogen, whose imaginative power he sees as corresponding to the revolutionary turmoil of the times. The Katsura Imperial Villa, with its chimerical spaces, achieved its own Japan-ness as it reinvented the traditional shoin style. And yet, writes Isozaki, what others consider to be the Japanese aesthetic is often the opposite of that essential Japan-ness born in moments of historic self-definition; the purified stylization -- what Isozaki calls "Japanesquization" -- lacks the energy of cultural transformation and reflects an island retrenchment in response to the pressure of other cultures.Combining historical survey, critical analysis, theoretical reflection, and autobiographical account, these essays, written over a period of twenty years, demonstrate Isozaki's standing as one of the world's leading architects and preeminent architectural thinkers.

Profound and thought provoking

I ordered this book before publication and it wasn't until the summer of 2006 that i read it. and read it and read it. It is not easy to grasp for it complexly relates the myth of "Japan-ness' and how the qualities of Japanese architecture have been influenced by critics, history, individuals and foreign interventions - Isato concludes that there is no 'essential Japanese style but a complex web of forces creating various Japanesese architectural forms. "Japan-ness in Architecture" is a beautiful blend of personal and historical explorations that reveal the sources of styles whose effects continually define structural identities and transformations throughout 'Japanese' history. This is one of the best books I have read on the interaction of Japanese history and culture.

I devoured the book in a weekend, and loved the way it gives a complete and very clear picture of the business.

This book is not only a must-read for those aspiring to a career in venture capital, but also for entrepreneurs seeking to raise venture capital. Entrepreneurs (myself included) ordinarily do not appreciate the challenges unique to VCs, namely the struggle involved in raising a fund, appraising opportunities across a wide-range of technologies, and overseeing portfolio companies. "Venture Capital Investing" book does an excellent job in terms of helping entrepreneurs understand those challenges. Again, I think it is an invaluable resource for those in the start-up community, regardless of which side of the table you sit on!

very useful for selecting the best Fund managers

The book is a comprehensive review of the venture capital industry and provides insights for investors on how to participate in it; it also offers interesting advice for fund managers in raising capital and improving the investment process. Lou Gerken is at ease in explaining success stories and failures, and shows how to learn from both. However, one area where the book doesn’t go deep enough is whether investing in venture capita funds is today worth the associated risks: the only statistical evidence offered is a single page summary of returns prepared by Cambridge Associates but those statistics are biased because they do not include the negative returns of the funds that failed and also are deeply affected by the selection of the reference periods and of the benchmarks. If it was possible to access the internal statistics of some of the largest investors, such as CALPERS (more than € 60 billion invested in hundreds of private equity and venture capital funds in a period of 20 years), one could have a truer view of the trend in average returns to investors because they are based on hundreds of investments of different vintages; those statistics normally show that in recent years (i.e. after 2004) the returns have decreased to the point that, considering the risk involved in venture capital and private equity, it may no longer be wise to invest in that sector. The venture capital and private equity professionals, both on the side of the limited partners and of the general partners, obviously do not share that view, which would mean the end of their jobs; they claim that recent results are affected by the J curve (i.e. in the initial life of the fund there are many costs and no exits, and the investments made are valued at the initial book value, thus underestimating –hopefully- the value creation underway) and, most importantly, they claim that all the funds that have been affected by the 2009/10 crisis (i.e. almost everyone) should not be counted in the statistics because of the unprecedented and non recurring situation of the crisis. The common belief is that sooner or later the average returns will match the confortable double-digit levels of 10 years ago; that is a real leap of faith and the book doesn’t explain why it should be so. It is quite possible that today’s external conditions are substantially different than yesterday’s; in the end, making money in an industry (adjusted for risk) depends on the demand/supply in that industry, i.e. whether there is an oversupply of capital chasing a limited supply of deals, and the size/duration of the unbalance. Up to 2008 there was an irrational exuberance that allowed many venture capital funds to be quite successful and the big question is if that condition is present today or will continue in the future.
Gerken however offers an interesting insight on how to select the fund managers that have the highest probability of making money even if the industry itself doesn’t offer the expectation of returns higher than the cost of capital. That part is the most valuable and original contribution of Gerken, and it quite credible because it is based on his successful professional experience.

Almost a waste of money.

This is a very light weight book, both page count and intellectual content. It is full of repetitive factoids, "white space", and typographic errors. I've seen many high school level term papers that are more thorough on their topics. This is a paper or pamphlet disguised as a book.

By the way, mescaline is a phenethylamine, not an amphetamine!!! Trichocereus is not a valid genus. The San Pedro cactus and the Peruvian torch cactus both belong to the genus Echinopsis.

Informative book!

A well written informative book. I've been doing some research for a school lab report and this was a good addition to what I've been learning. I thought the book was written very well and easy to understand. Peyotes are fascinating, and if you're ever wondering what you can do with the little cactus, this book would give you some great information. This thing has some gnarly powers, to say the least...

Not objective actually quite ethnocentric, claiming there are a lot of none natives using sacrament for parties, plus factually inaccurate mescaline not being an amphetamine at all, I have met and heard many Native American(south and north) claim that sacrament is all about intention and ritual not race, don't believe what these authors say they read too much and prayed too little:(
