Just what I was looking for!

I just spent several days online researching medicinal uses of CBD/hemp oil. I read articles, explored websites, perused product information from various hemp oil producers and queried folks on facebook. But the more I read, the more confused I became.

I knew that I wanted to try hemp oil. I had heard about the many health benefits of CBD and was hopeful that it might provide some relief for my chronic Fibromyalgia and Arthritis pain. But I couldn't find information on dosage or explanations of the uses of the various forms (drops, capsules, creams, etc.). But thankfully, while reading conflicting reviews of different CBD products on Amazon, I came across this book. Hooray! I immediately downloaded it and was able to read it in a little over an hour.

The book has just enough scientific and medical info to explain how and why CBD works as medicine; this gave me confidence that hemp oil is not just a fad, placebo or snake oil. Much of the research cited is from US government studies as well as universities (and there are plenty of citations and footnotes for those who want to go to the source). The author is clearly very well educated on the subject, and his experience in nursing and drug counseling are a real plus, adding to my confidence.

It's less of a "how-to" and more of a "why not?", if that makes sense. The author was careful not to prescribe; he didn't tell me how much CBD I should take. But he did give examples of the range of dosages used by people and suggests that it's a good idea to go "low and slow"; start at a low dose and increase slowly, preferable under a doctor's supervision. I now feel informed and confident enough to go forward and try this new/ancient medicine!

To the author: Bravo! You have shed light and reason on an important subject and provided a valuable service to a suffering public. You have my gratitude.

(A humble suggestion: you might consider taking the "nursing" reference out of the title. While the book would clearly be useful for those in the nursing profession, it is equally important and accessible to the lay reader, and I fear you might lose many potential readers who assume that it's a book written primarily for nurses. I almost passed it by for that reason; I'm glad I didn't! Also, I hope that you will decide to offer the book in a print version as well; some folks don't have access to e-readers; and some of us just prefer having a hard to copy to underline and highlight and reference repeatedly; it's just easier in "book" form! I would definitely buy a hard copy, if you decide to offer one.) Thank you again for your fine work. Good luck to you!

but, i do not YET speak russian, ..

i lived in moscow & studied at the pushkin institute,

i have bought a lot of russian volumes, to help me in my studies, ... some good, some not so good,

this looks to be one of the good ones, .. the format is sequentially set up, ... each building upon what has gone before, AND, importantly, the there are stress marks to help in pronunciation, ... with russian, this is extremely important.

at the moment, this volume holds an honored position on my bookshelf, i anticipate many referrals to this volume, in the years to come, ..

I've been electronically modifying my cars for a very long time - and this books reflect some of that passion.

The thing with making electronic car modifications is that many people think it's a closed book - that you have to be a computer scientist or electronic engineer to make any changes.

But that's just not the case - I am neither, and yet I've modified systems as diverse as electronic stability control, engine management, all-wheel drive torque split control systems... and many more.

So you don't need to be an electronics engineer to modify car electronics - but I do think you need to have a basic understanding of circuits, relays, resistors, potentiometers and the like.

That's why this book starts with the absolute basics - looking at very simple circuits. I then move onto to different signal types - analog and digital - and how to measure and modify these signals.��

As far as I am aware, there's not another book on the market that takes this approach - starting from scratch and then developing straightforward techniques that can be used to modify the most complex of car systems.

(And of course there are also some areas that this book does not explore - cracking software and making changes at that level, for example.)

If you currently make lots of mechanical modifications to your car but the electronics side of things is unknown to you, this book will help you understand what you can do - and how to do it.

About the Author
Julian Edgar started his working life freelancing for photography magazines. He then worked as a secondary school teacher for eight years, teaching humanities, before leaving teaching and becoming a full-time automotive writer.

He edited a national Australian automotive print magazine before becoming editor of AutoSpeed, an online car magazine. Along the way he wrote extensively for Silicon Chip, an electronics hobbyist magazine, while contributing articles to publications in Australia, the UK and the US.

He has owned cars with two, three, four, five, six and eight cylinder engines; diesel, petrol and hybrid petrol/electric drivelines; front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations; and cars with single turbos, twin turbos and superchargers.

He has been electronically modifying his cars for about 25 years, usually by very cheap and effective means. Over that time he has modified engine management systems, engine cooling systems, turbo boost controls, electric power steering systems, auto transmission controls, all-wheel drive torque split controls, stability controls, hybrid car regenerative braking controls, and lighting and sound systems.

Interesting and informative

I've enjoyed reading this book. The author has some interesting ideas and seems to be very knowledgeable. Nice quality printing and color illustrations. I will buy his other books. I'm interested in car electronics and have a basic level of knowledge. I may not do many of the projects in this book but it is good information and is motivating.

Good but not as good as the handbook

I have both the calculations book by Brian McPartland and the NEC Handbook by Brian and his dad Joe. I prefer the handbook more, although you may want both. My problem with this book is that it was not proofed adequately for math errors and typos. I have found at least four computational errors in the examples.
I am not to impressed with this book because it does not take you too far beyond the examples already in the NEC or beyond the obvious. The explainations of why they are computing things the way they are (logic behind the computations) are all explained in the Handbook. Many of the examples are merely duplications of the handbook examples. If you want one good book, buy the Handbook. Don't waste money on the NEC handbooks published by NFPA. They merely waste space by quoting the NEC with some useless comments thrown in. McPartland is the only guy who has ever written a handbook worth having that goes in depth as to why the code is the way it is.
