Good Overview

While this book was written several years ago, the content is still valid today. Engineering Geology is geology applied to engineering applications as opposed to Geological Engineering which should be considered to be engineering applied to geologic issues. I met Bon Johnson many years ago when I was a student in the Engineering Geology program in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. Dr. Johnson was one of the lead faculty members.
As you may conclude from the setting of the Purdue Enginnering Geology Department in the School of Civil Engineering, the emphasis of that program was on geological issues as they effect engineering projects. This book does a good job of covering the fundamentals of Geology, Rocks, Soils, Water as they relate to engineering and methods of investigating and mapping these issues. It integrates scientific and mechanical issues as they apply to Geology in Engineering. It is a good basic text from which to go forward into more detailed studies of Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, Slope Stability, etc .
