A essential companion to most Nursing Foundation text book.

At first I thought I had the necessary skills in critical thinking, yet the fact is that such a skill for Nursing is complex and would benefit students should there is a guide that breakdown all of its components for proper assimilation. Through this well written book which detailed the steps and all their logical sequences, it had deepen my critical thinking ability for professional Nursing beyond what was offered by the Nursing Fundamental text book. It covers the basic five steps of Nursing Process and its application from care plan creation to delegation. Full of insights for both inside and outside the clinical setting. And as a first-time Nursing student like myself, I would highly recommend this book.

Great Purchase!

This is a practical guide to Critical Thinking. It is written in a clear and straightforward manner, which I found to be a breath of fresh air, and very helpful in learning how to be a better critical thinker. As a working nurse, I find the field is becoming more complex, which requires strong critical thinking skills. Although I do have good critical thinking skills I have developed from my experiences, I wanted them to be stronger. I purchased this book in hopes of doing so, and find that I am learning a lot from it! I would recommend this to novice and expert alike! A really good buy!

It is a basic book on what is vedic astrology and how you can cast horoscope. I liked the Birth Chart chapter. It also talks about each house and how it affects us. This is a book for better understanding basic principles like degrees in houses in vedic astrology, different houses etc. I will recommend this to those who want brief idea on basics of vedic astrology because once you know the basics then it becomes easy to understand further. Short book and value for money.

Getting lost on the way to Sedona only makes young Skyer Lake's pleas to return to their previous life in New Jersey that much louder. With the vast wisdom of a ten-year-old, Skyler still hopes for a reconciliation between his pilot father and free spirited mother Abby, despite his father's new wife and expected twins. In the midst of Divorce Crazies, Abby plans to build an adobe and a new life in Sedona until life takes an unexpected detour. Thanks to Skyler's meddling, the ensuing damage to their van guarantees time in Trueheart, Colorado living next door to their rescuer, Jack Kelton and his young daughter Kat.
In the small town of Trueheart, Jack cannot seem to find a babysitter capable of keeping his mischievous daughter in hand. Kat's pranks are legendary, with her singed eyebrows only demonstrating proof of her imaginative troublemaking. enjoyable contemporary romance

Following her divorce and the remarriage of her cheating spouse, artist Abby Lake accompanied by her ten year old son Skyler leaves New Jersey to drive to Sedona, Arizona to start over though her son hates leaving because he still believes his dad will return. When her bus overheats, Abby stops and searches for water. Desperately needing to return home, Skyler drives the bus but the pet cat gets stuck under the break. Skyler stays calm as Jack Kelton helps him stop the runaway bus before anyone is injured. The vehicle needs repair forcing Abby and Skyler to stay in Trueheart, Colorado for awhile.
Divorce lawyer Jack has rules never to get involved with someone recovering from the marital wars, but likes Abby anyway. She has her own law built from the ruins of her marriage to never depend on a man. As they become acquainted and his tomboy daughter enjoys the female influence in her life, Jack and Abby break all the rules and laws. However, the other member of a potentially loving quartet still believes his father is returning as promised so he sabotages the growing relationship between his mother and the enemy.
This is an enjoyable contemporary romance that adds a deep look at the aftermath on individuals of a divorce. Abby trusts no male while Jack knows the bitterness people feel when the forever love fails. However, it is Skyler's reaction that adds the tension as he firmly expects his parents to get back together. Though his dad is a coward for lying to his son, readers will relish this warm family drama.

This is a great book full of laughs and romance. I think anyone who has been through the "Divorce Crazys" will love this book and for anyone who hasn't they will still love the humor, the chemistry of the characters, and the overall great story... I was kind of sad when I had finished it that there wasn't anymore to read about these wonderdful characters.

A warm, funny, helpful kick in the pants

I have noticed that in a lot of books claiming to give writing advice, the actual advice gets lost in all the writing. Not so in You Are Boring, but You Are Uniquely Boring. This guide to memoir writing lists twenty-five simple models you can follow step-by-step to extract your own memories and put them on paper. The short chapters are conversational in tone, and the authors’ appealing snatches of essays about their own lives help bring to mind stories you may have buried or previously didn’t find important enough to record.

Life, after all, is made up of small moments, every-day relationships, and sensory experiences. You don’t have to have suffered great tragedy, accomplished amazing feats, or gained worldwide fame to write a memoir worth reading. Louise Plummer and Ann Cannon skillfully show the significance that can be found in recalling a conversation with your father at the kitchen table or recording what your mother wrote in the margin of her favorite recipe.

Everyone can benefit from reading this book and trying out its tips. Even without the exercises, it’s a thoroughly entertaining and insightful read from two wonderful writers.

You Are Boring, But You Are Uniquely Boring delivers on its promise: it entertains as it convinces you that your memoir is worth writing and you are the one to do the job. Each section contains tips and examples from both authors which get your mental juices flowing before you start noodling away on your keyboard. It’s a very effective method. Watching Ann and Louise write their everyday-ness into sparkling prose made my own life seem important enough to capture in writing. By the time I was finished reading a chapter, I had memories floating up that needed to be chronicled, and I jotted them down immediately. Now I have recorded pieces about my birth, first memories, turning points, and even illnesses, dreams, nemeses, and my beliefs. About the Author

James Keeler studied Chemistry at Oxford graduating in 1981. He continued at Oxford working under Professor Ray Freeman, FRS, on new techniques in high resolution NMR spectropscopy; he was awarded the D.Phil in 1984. Later that year he moved to the Department of Chemistry in Cambridge appointed first as a University Demonstrator, then subsequently as a University Lecturer and Senior Lecturer. His research interests continue in NMR and he has published around 60 papers in this area.
In 1994 James was appointed as Director of Teaching in the Department. He is a Fellow of Selwyn College and there has been very involved in the teaching of Chemistry and the Natural Sciences, as well as other aspects of the academic and administrative life of the College.
In 1989 he was awarded the Meldola Medal by the Royal Society of Chemistry and in 1998 he received a Pilkington Teaching Prize from the University of Cambridge. Peter Wothers studied Chemistry at Cambridge, graduating in 1991 before undertaking a PhD under Professor A.J.Kirby on stereoelectronic effects and conformational analysis in organic chemistry. In 1996 he was appointed to the newly established post of 'Teaching Fellow' in the Department of Chemistry. He lectures to the undergraduates and also runs the physical chemistry practical courses. He is involved in teaching chemistry to all age groups from giving demonstration lectures to the general public and school children to running courses for teachers designed to update their subject knowledge. In 2002 he was awarded a Pilkington Teaching Prize from the University.
During his time at Cambridge, Peter has remained at St Catharine's College where, amongst other things, he is the Director of Studies in Chemistry.

A well-written, concise, and holistic view of physical and organic chemistry

The best part of the book is that it really answers the question of the title: Why DO chemical reactions happen? It does so by introducing and explaining the structure of the atom and of molecules (refreshingly using Molecular Orbital Theory), and applying that knowledge to bonding changes in a reaction. By investigating the relative strengths of bonds (and amounts of entropy) in the reactants and products, the book describes how a reaction occurs, when a reaction occurs (thermodynamics), how fast a reaction occurs (kinetics), and how and why changing conditions (solvent, temperature, etc.) can have such a big effect on the outcome of a particular reaction. Yes, even I learned some things from this book, or at least I learned better ways to present this material in my undergraduate courses.

According to the back cover, this book is appropriate for anyone with a "high school level" of chemistry. Presumably the authors are referring to the British A-Level, but I think the average A-level (or International Baccelauriate in North America) student would find this book heavy slogging indeed. No, if it was to be used by students, I would suggest it's most appropriate for a 2nd to 4th university semester physical organic course. It would also be a very useful and easily read refresher book for upper-year students. As a chemistry prof, I could easily see this as a text for the second half of an introductory (general) chemistry course. But I think the best use for this book would be in a "physical chemistry for the life sciences" type course, for biochemistry or molecular biology majors. It hits on all the important chemical questions (kinetics, thermodynamics, bonding) that a molecular life scientist needs, without bogging itself down in lists of reactions (like standard organic texts are wont to do). It might not have enough mathematical detail to fit in a hard-core physical course, nor enough reactions to satisfy a hard-core organic course.

The book is concise, uses diagrams effectively, and reads quickly for an experienced chemist. The tradeoff is that there is no glossary, and terms are introduced once and the reader is then expected to know it from then on. This can make it very heavy slogging for a high school student! It could possibly be used as a textbook in a low-level chemistry class.

Although I think most students would appreciate the brevity, it's hard to recommend this as a textbook: (1) the cost is quite high for the size, although the length is exactly right for a 1-semester physical organic course; (2) there are no exercises or even concept reviews - it's written as a reference book, or maybe as a "Physical Organic for Dummies", but it's too high a level to appeal to a general audience. Therefore, I would have to classify it as a valuable reference text around which to design a physical organic course. As such, the authors have admirably met their goal.

A fabulous read. This book features clear writing and step-by-step experimental and mathematical reasoning to reach sophisticated insights and conclusions. Lessons build throughout the book almost like a drum roll. As a result, I can claim enthusiastically that I have developed a much deeper understanding of "Why Chemical Reactions Happen" for having read this book. It will also make for an excellent reference on occasion. The authors, James Keeler and Peter Wothers, both of Cambridge, clearly put a lot of effort into making this an exceptional and exciting addition to the Oxford University Press repertoire. I should note that the team has also written an introductory chemistry book which has been quite favorably received (Chemical Structure and Reactivity: An Integrated Approach 2nd Edition).

Engineering Thermodynamics 3rd edition.

I bought the 3rd edition 1979 reprint of this book. I have been using it for a self study of Thermodynamics. I had noticed many newer books reference this book.
Unfortunately, there seems to be several math errors through the book. Especially in the self-study questions at the end of each chapter. I have checked some of the math with other people and they agreed. For one example you can look here: [...]
The book could additionally use some better pictures and explanation of some of the vocab. A picture is worth a 1000 words.
The books good points are that it has a good introduction of units. Meaning different measuring systems. It really shows what different units mean. I may continue to use the book, but if the math errors keep up I may abandon it.
